EXAMINATION RELATED STRESS

As the Diwali festivities begin to settle and the year approaches its end, the countdown for end of school term examinations also begins. Last-minute revisions start, and a variety of tips and techniques are thrown around that are supposed to help students memorize and recall everything that they must.

A degree of stress can be helpful in driving one to action but exam related stress can lead to some of the following complaints:

  • Forgetfulness
  • Tiredness
  • Difficulty sleeping at night or waking up in the morning
  • Headaches
  • Anxiety or irritability

In order to improve coping with stress parents should provide support to their children by being non-critical and helping their child in designing a time table to support them in their studies.

Exam stress can be prevented by anticipating academic demands and preparing accordingly. A raised awareness of one’s weaker areas can allow them to dedicate more time towards these.

It is important to be aware when one is experiencing more stress so that they can do something about it. Eating healthy food and avoiding junk food, getting regular exercise and trying to maintain a regular sleep pattern will help promote resilience.
